Net kilos off a full pallet, format by format
Kilos per pallet is the box weight multiplied by a layer count and a number of layers, so it moves with the format and not with the pallet. Two of our formats stand on the same base and hold different amounts of fruit, which means an identical pallet plan delivers two different tonnages depending on which box the packhouse ran.

What it changes on an order
You are converting a tonnage into an order
A buyer who asks for a quantity in tonnes and a packer who answers in pallets are both being precise, and the bridge between them is the format. Name the box in the same sentence as the tonnage and the two figures stop drifting apart.
You are paying freight per pallet
Freight charged per pallet position rewards the heaviest honest pallet you can build, and freight charged per kilo does not care. Find out which basis your carrier uses before you choose between a lighter box and a heavier one.
You are stocking a cold store
Storage is sold by the pallet position almost everywhere. A format that puts less fruit on the same footprint raises the storage cost of every kilo you hold, and that cost shows up weeks after the purchase decision was made.
What this note does not settle
- These kilos are not a packing list. They are the sector reference this site publishes, and the real figure for a given run comes from the packhouse that built the pallets.
- Only the 15 kg box has a pallet reference here. Converting it to the lighter or the heavier box by simple proportion ignores that layer counts and stacking height change with the box, and the answer will be wrong.
- Net is fruit alone. What the vehicle carries, and what a weighbridge reads, is a different figure and belongs with the gross weight of the loaded pallet.
Same floor, different fruit
Two of the box formats in our catalogue share a base and differ in what they hold. Put either on the same pallet and the floor plan does not move; the fruit does. The lighter box carries less in the same space, so two pallets of identical dimensions leave the packhouse weighing visibly different amounts, and a freight quote built on one of them is wrong for the other.
One format breaks the pattern by changing the base as well. A larger footprint tiles the pallet differently, and once the floor plan changes, layer counts and stacking height change with it. You cannot carry a figure across from one format to another by scaling the net weight, which is the arithmetic most people do in their heads and the one that puts a freight enquiry out by a pallet.
What the kilo figure does not include
Net fruit per pallet is fruit and nothing else. It leaves out the wood under it, the board around it, the film over it and the corner posts holding it square, all of which travel and all of which are paid for by the kilometre. On a load bought delivered, that difference sits inside the price per kilo and never appears as a line.
It also assumes every box on the pallet holds exactly what it says. Packers fill to a minimum and most boxes go out a little over, because a box that reads under on a buyer's scale is a complaint and a box that reads over is a rounding error. Across a full pallet those small surpluses add up, which is one reason two honest weights rarely agree to the decimal.
