What it changes on an order
You are planning a full vehicle
Pallet count and payload are worked out from this unit on the packaging page. Ask in the same breath which pallet base the fruit comes on and how high it is stacked, because those two answers decide whether the vehicle fills by weight or by floor space.
Your fruit is handled by people
A box of this weight moves by hand between the vehicle and the display all day long. That makes its weight a working condition on the receiving side and not only a line in a logistics plan, which is part of why the format settled where it did.
You are comparing two offers
Packaging cost per kilo is buried inside the price and changes with the format. A figure for this box and a figure for bagged fruit on a pallet describe different amounts of work, so put the format next to the price before you call one of them cheaper.
What this note does not settle
- Our confirmed packing options are still pending with the grower. The formats on this site are planning references, and a specific box becomes part of an order only once it has been agreed.
- Boxes per layer and kilos per pallet are orders of magnitude, not a standard. They shift with box height, stacking height and each packer's loading plan, and the packhouse is the only place that settles them.
- The format does not fix how many oranges are inside. Count follows the size of the fruit, and a buyer who needs a count per box has to say so when the size is agreed.
Why the pallet arithmetic is written in this box
The palletisation figures published on this site are counted in boxes of this format. Layers, boxes per layer and the net fruit a pallet carries all describe this unit standing on a pallet base, which is what makes it the format a quotation is built against by default. Ask for the same load in another box and every one of those figures has to be worked out again by the packhouse before anybody prices the freight.
That dependency is easy to miss when a format gets chosen for how the fruit looks on arrival. The choice runs backwards into the loading plan, the number of pallets in a vehicle and the cost each kilo carries down the road. Settle the format and the pallet base in one conversation and the rest of the numbers stop moving under you. The packhouse holds that answer, and the order is where it gets written down.
The unit that moves by hand
At the end of the chain a person picks this box up, carries it to a display and empties it. That happens many times a morning on a market stand and several times a day in a shop, which turns the weight of the package into a working condition rather than a line in a logistics plan. A format chosen without the person unloading in mind comes back as a complaint about something else entirely.
It is also why changing format is a conversation with your customer and not only with your supplier. A shop used to one box has racking, a trolley and a routine built around it. Send the new dimensions and the new weight before the first pallet arrives, so the change lands as information instead of as a surprise on a Monday morning.
