The seaward end of l'Horta Nord
Albuixech is a coastal municipality. Its term reaches the Mediterranean, the shore lies about two kilometres from the village, and the beach there is low, sandy and little more than a kilometre long. The Real Acequia de Moncada, which begins at a weir in Paterna, runs down this stretch of the plain before it ends north of here.
Position is what separates this planting from the inland ones. Fruit grown close to the sea sits in a different microclimate from fruit grown at the head of the plain, and the ground changes with it, from the deep river alluvium of the huerta towards sand as the shore gets nearer.
What the coast does, and what nobody has measured here
Growers on this strip will tell you that the sea changes how a citrus block behaves. We are leaving that as a description of the place instead of turning it into a claim about the fruit, because nothing on this plot has been measured: no soil analysis, no sugar and acid readings, no water quality report.
What that leaves a buyer with is a page about place and a short list of questions worth asking before a specification is signed: where the water for this block comes from, what the rootstock is, and how the fruit is handled between the tree and the pallet. None of the three is answered here today, because none of them has been confirmed in writing.
Loading it, and the lot number that is still missing
Albuixech sits beside the V-21, the dual carriageway that runs up the coast between València and Sagunt, and shares with Massalfassar an industrial estate that has been working since the 1970s. The fruit needs no long run on secondary roads before it reaches a motorway, which is a small thing that shows up in a delivered price.
The lot prefix is the field we would most like to fill. A prefix ties a pallet back to a named planting, and it costs nothing beyond the decision to set one. It is empty today, so traceability back to this block has to be handled by agreement and not by the label.
